What counts as an emergency
- Severe pain that painkillers don't touchRing now
- Swelling in the face or gumRing now
- A knocked-out or badly broken toothRing now
- Bleeding that won't stopRing now, or 999 if heavy
While you wait
- PainParacetamol and ibuprofen together if you can take both, as directed on the pack
- Knocked-out adult toothHold by the crown, rinse gently, keep in milk — bring it with you
- Broken toothKeep the piece, avoid hot and cold
- SwellingDon't apply heat — a cold compress on the outside only
